Tucked deep inside the Nanda Devi National Park region, the Bagini Glacier Trek is one of Uttarakhand’s most stunning yet lesser-explored Himalayan trails. With grand views of Mt. Dunagiri (7,066 m)—a peak that rises like the crown of a mighty king—the trail offers a rare Himalayan experience. As you trek deeper, the dramatic presence of Rishi Pahad, the snout of Rishi Ganga, and the spectacular base camp of the formidable Changabang (6,864 m) make this journey truly unforgettable.
As the trail leads toward the Advance Base Camp, used for mountaineering expeditions to high Himalayan peaks like Changabang and Kalanka, trekkers often say the landscape feels like a quieter, purer version of Everest Base Camp—an alpine world without the noise, hustle, and commercialization.
The trek is enriched with fascinating mythology. Dronagiri village is deeply linked with the Ramayana. Legend says that Lord Hanuman lifted the hill of Dronagiri while searching for Sanjeevani Booti to save Lord Laxmana. Because of this, during local festivals, villagers enact the Ramayana only up to that moment—reflecting their emotional bond with the legend.
The warm hospitality of the Rongpa people, their simple mountain lifestyle, their hard work, and traditional farming practices add a beautiful cultural layer to this already special trek.
